Taste Identification

Knowledge · Skill guide

Detect poison in food and support an offensive poison build. Maximum skill: 100; useful alongside Poisoning.

Summary

  • Use: Use Taste Identification on food; its poison-build benefits apply through the relevant poison rules.
  • The same eligible food can be reused for training.
  • Potion and keg inspection reports contents without the food-training check.
  • It does not add a higher poison tier against players; supported PvM delivery can gain one tier from 50 Taste Identification.

Training

Set Taste Identification to Up ↑ and leave room under your 720 total skill cap.

Taste Identification recommended training route
Skill Range Recommended Activity
0–50 Buy an optional lesson from an Alchemist for 300 gold; it raises this skill directly to 50.0.
50–100 Keep using Taste Identification on ordinary food.

Right-click the teacher NPC, select the skill’s training entry, then give 300 gold. You need a skill cap of at least 50 and room for the entire lesson under your total cap.

Mechanics & Scaling

Against players, Taste Identification adds up to 15 percentage points to ordinary poisoned-weapon delivery: effective skill × 0.15%, capped at skill 100. Poisoning supplies a separate contribution up to 20%, for a single combined roll capped at 35%; the stored coating’s trained Poisoning requirement must be met. It never raises the PvP poison tier. Against creatures, supported delivery gains at most one poison level from 50.0 skill onward.

Threshold / Stat Effect / Scaling
0.0 +0% PvP delivery contribution; no extra PvM level
50.0 +7.5% PvP delivery contribution; up to one extra PvM level
100.0 +15% PvP delivery contribution; up to one extra PvM level

Additional rules & notes

  • Poisoning and Taste Identification affect delivery and cure reliability in different ways.

Location & Instructors

  • Trainer NPC: Alchemist or Cook to 50.0.
  • Academy: Use the skill on food. Potion and keg identification does not run the ordinary training check.
