How Combat Works in Ironveil
Foundational Mechanics: Weapon Speed, Damage Calculations & Healing
A plain-language guide to physical hit chances, weapon swing speed formulas, defensive parrying, PvP vs PvM damage scaling, and healing timings.
Melee & Ranged Hit Calculations
Hit chance is calculated dynamically by comparing the attacker's weapon skill with the defender's combat skill:
Base Hit Formula
Chance to Hit (%) = (Attacker Skill + 20) / ((Defender Skill + 20) × 2). Balanced evenly at equal skill levels (50% base).
Tactics Multiplier
Tactics provides a direct percentage modifier to all physical damage dealt, scaling from +0% at 0 skill up to +50% at Grandmaster.
Anatomy Bonus
Anatomy grants additional passive damage and increases the frequency of crippling physical blows.
Weapon Swing Speed & Stamina
Weapon delay is directly tied to your character's current Stamina. Losing stamina in battle drastically slows down your weapon:
Stamina Dependency
Current stamina directly accelerates your swing timer. Dropping to low stamina cuts your damage per second in half.
Dexterity Tiers
Higher base Dexterity lowers weapon recovery time. Fast weapons like Daggers and Krysses swing at the maximum cap with high Dex.
The Three Healing Paths
Ironveil features three distinct healing mechanics that can be combined for survivability:
Bandages (Healing + Anatomy)
Takes 4–11 seconds depending on Dexterity. Cannot be interrupted by spell damage. At 80+ skill, cures poison and resurrects allies.
Magery (Greater Heal)
Fast 1.5s cast delivering immediate hit points. Vulnerable to weapon interrupts and fizzles if disrupted.
Potions (Instant Drink)
Instant recovery on separate cooldown timers. Subject to potion lock and unusable while paralyzed.
