Parrying

Combat · Skill guide

Gives a chance to block eligible attacks with a shield. Maximum skill: 120 with Power Scrolls; useful alongside Mysticism for the Guardian PvM build.

Summary

  • Use: Equip a shield and receive eligible attacks; keep it equipped while training.
  • You need a shield; a weapon alone does not activate shield parrying.
  • Dexterity below 80 reduces your block chance.
  • Parrying is a chance to block, not constant damage reduction.

Training

Set Parrying to Up ↑ and leave room under your 720 total skill cap.

Parrying recommended training route
Skill Range Recommended Activity
0–50 Buy an optional lesson from a Blacksmith for 300 gold; it raises this skill directly to 50.0.
50–80 Equip a shield and spar with an Academy Sparring Knight; attack it to keep the session active.
80–120 Receive eligible attacks with a shield equipped outside the Academy.

Above 100, use matching Power Scrolls in order: 105, 110, 115, then 120. They unlock caps without granting skill points.

Right-click the teacher NPC, select the skill’s training entry, then give 300 gold. You need a skill cap of at least 50 and room for the entire lesson under your total cap.

Mechanics & Scaling

A shield is required. At 80+ Dexterity, block chance is skill ÷ 400 plus 5% at 100+. PvP first halves the contribution above skill 100: Parrying 100/110/120 gives 30/31.25/32.5%, versus 30/32.5/35% in PvM. Lower Dexterity multiplies that chance by (20 + Dexterity) ÷ 100.

Threshold / Stat Effect / Scaling
100 skill · 10 Dex 9%
100 skill · 80+ Dex 30%
