Archery

Combat · Skill guide

Controls accuracy with bows and crossbows. Maximum skill: 120 with Power Scrolls; useful alongside Tactics and Anatomy.

Summary

  • Use: Equip a bow or crossbow and attack a valid opponent.
  • Carry arrows for a bow or bolts for a crossbow, and keep a clear line of sight.
  • Archer PvM techniques also need Chivalry and the Archer Codex.

Training

Set Archery to Up ↑ and leave room under your 720 total skill cap.

Archery recommended training route
Skill Range Recommended Activity
0–50 Buy an optional lesson from a Bowyer for 300 gold; it raises this skill directly to 50.0.
50–80 Fight matching Academy practice targets; use the Archery range and its practice ammunition.
80–120 Shoot challenging creatures or a similarly trained sparring partner outside the Academy, using matching ammunition.

Above 100, use matching Power Scrolls in order: 105, 110, 115, then 120. They unlock caps without granting skill points.

Right-click the teacher NPC, select the skill’s training entry, then give 300 gold. You need a skill cap of at least 50 and room for the entire lesson under your total cap.

Mechanics & Scaling

Archery is the primary weapon skill. Player shots work at one tile but not at zero distance; normal range, line of sight and timing still apply. Chivalry is the separate Ironveil role skill for PvM techniques. Successful ranged attacks gain a Plate recovery cost based on covered body locations: up to +1.000 second in PvP and +0.500 seconds in PvM for full Plate.

Additional rules & notes

  • Choose targets that still challenge your skill; an outgrown opponent may stop giving the relevant checks.
  • A Training Bow offers safer sparring. Watch your partner’s health and heal between attempts.

Location & Instructors

  • Trainer NPC: Bowyer or Ranger to 50.0.
  • Academy: Fight archery targets to 80.0.
