Inspect creatures and support pet healing and control. Maximum skill: 120 with Power Scrolls; useful alongside Animal Taming and Veterinary.
Summary
- Use: Use Animal Lore on a living controlled animal and read its information window.
- The same controlled animal remains useful for training; a stronger creature ladder is not required.
- Wild tameable creatures need 100 effective Lore to inspect; wild non-tameable creatures need 110.
Training
Set Animal Lore to Up ↑ and leave room under your 720 total skill cap.
| Skill Range | Recommended Activity |
|---|---|
| 0–50 | Buy an optional lesson from an Animal Trainer for 300 gold; it raises this skill directly to 50.0. |
| 50–100 | Keep inspecting your living controlled horse or another eligible controlled animal. |
| 100–120 | Continue inspecting an eligible controlled animal after unlocking each higher cap. |
Above 100, use matching Power Scrolls in order: 105, 110, 115, then 120. They unlock caps without granting skill points.
Right-click the teacher NPC, select the skill’s training entry, then give 300 gold. You need a skill cap of at least 50 and room for the entire lesson under your total cap.
Mechanics & Scaling
The dedicated Beastmaster target is 120.0. Lore also combines with Veterinary for pet bandages.
Additional rules & notes
- Looking at a creature does not tame it or heal it.

- Trainer NPC: Animal Trainer, Rancher or Veterinarian to 50.0.
- Academy: Use Animal Lore on varied creatures and owned companions.
